Station access

Network Rail owns the freehold to the vast majority of the approximately 2,500 railway stations in Great Britain. Most stations are leased to and operated by one or other of the franchised passenger train operating companies.

Network Rail operates only the following major stations:

Cannon Street Liverpool Street Birmingham New Street
Charing Cross London Bridge Edinburgh Waverley
Euston Paddington Glasgow Central (High Level)
Fenchurch Street London Victoria Leeds
Gatwick Airport St. Pancras Liverpool Lime Street
King's Cross Waterloo Manchester Piccadilly

The operator of each station is known as the station facility owner.  Other train operators who want to use the station must enter into an access contract with the station facility owner. If the contracts are not approved by us, they are invalid.
