NRT Data Portal (rail statistics)

NRT Data Portal Visit NRT Data Portal

The NRT Data Portal is an online interface for ORR's database of official and rail statistics. It contains information on safety, service satisfaction, rail usage, performance, network capability and assets, official statistics and much more.

Formerly published each quarter and as the National Rail Trends (NRT) yearbook, it now offers an interactive customisable tool that will help you access standard reports or create your own reports.

To view previous editions of the National Rail Trends yearbook please visit our archive page. To see when we publish our standard reports, please visit our publications schedule.

An overview of the latest statistics

We produce a regular summary of the standard reports generated by the NRT Data Portal over the past three months. It includes links to the full reports and a high-level commentary about key areas of interest. Our data currently only covers the rail industry in Great Britain.

Please note this is a static document so always check the NRT Data Portal for the latest data.

As part of our commitment to improving the quality of our statistics in line with requirements for National Statistics accreditation, we will be introducing themed statistical releases in the latter part of 2013. These will provide contextual commentary on statistics across a common topic (e.g. rail usage) and will aid the user in the interpretation of the data. This means that we will no longer be producing the quarterly summary in its current form, with quarter 4 2012-13 (Jan – Mar 2013) being the last one. Please contact us at rail.stats@orr.gsi.gov.uk for more information.

Network Rail Monitor

The Network Rail Monitor key statistics is an important tool we use to hold Network Rail to account. It is published quarterly.

Station usage data

Station usage data consist of estimates of the total numbers of people entering, exiting and interchanging at stations.

UK statistics authority code of practice

View how we comply with the national statistics code of practice principles and protocols.

We publish a revisions policy and log as part of our compliance to the code of practice for national statistics. We also publish proposals about changes to data and actively look for feedback from users of the statistics. View further information about our approach to user engagement.
