The Office of Rail Regulation's HM Railway Inspectorate (HMRI) has a key role in reassuring the general travelling public that the risks posed Britain’s railways are being controlled, so far as is reasonably practicable, by railway operators. ORR’s HMRI is responsible for enforcing health and safety legislation, investigating incidents and has powers to prosecute breaches of health and safety law on Britain’s railways.
