Equal opportunities

Selection criteria and procedures will be frequently reviewed to ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and treated on the basis of their relevant merits and abilities.

Positive about disability

We welcome job applications from disabled people and we are positive about their abilities.

To encourage applications from disabled people we offer an assurance that all disabled applicants who meet the minimum ("essential") criteria will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at interview stage. This commitment applies to all vacancies, internal and external without exception.

Representation

We value employee relations and fosters partnership working with staff and recognised trade union representatives. Collective agreements that affect staff terms and conditions of employment are negotiated through a formal consultative committee.

Nationality

All ORR jobs are open to UK nationals, other Commonwealth citizens, British Protected persons, nationals of states in the European Economic Area and certain members of their families.  Commonwealth citizens must be free from any restrictions to reside and take up employment in the UK.

All candidates invited for interview are asked to bring a document to prove their identity and ensure their eligibility to work in the UK.  A photocopy of this document will be made by ORR during the interview process.  Full details of the documents that may be supplied will be sent to candidates invited for interview.

Retirement

The default retirement age for ORR employees is 65.  Employees can request to work beyond this age, although it will be at the discretion of ORR.  The default pension age for new Civil Servants is 65.  New employees must be fit to carry out the duties of the job and be likely to give regular and effective service for a period of one year, or the period of appointment if this is less.

Financial interests and shareholdings

To avoid conflicts of interest and safeguard personal and Office integrity, ORR employees, their spouses and their dependent children must not hold shares, or take a financial interest in certain railway industry companies, including licensed train operating companies, any company which controls these companies or any companies subject to statutory regulation by the ORR.  Staff must also register the employment of a spouse or partner by any such company.  In case of doubt please contact HR on 020 7282 2011.
