ORR's role in handling RAIB recommendations

We have a clear policy (PDF 34 Kb) for considering and following up RAIB’s recommendations.

  • We ensure that recommendations are duly considered and where appropriate acted upon.
  • We assess the action taken by those to whom we have passed the recommendations to against clear criteria, using both technical and other experts, to decide our view on the responses. We decide what further action we may need to take.
  • We report to RAIB in accordance with the regulations and the Memorandum of Understanding (PDF 72 Kb) between us. We have a separate Memorandum of Understanding for Scotland (PDF 64 Kb). We report back to RAIB details of any implementation measures, or the reasons why no implementation measures are being taken.
  • We have agreed that from 2010 we will respond to RAIB reports in their entirety (rather than on individual recommendations) and that we will make our response public. View our full response to RAIB for reports published after January 2010. The table is in incident date order and includes our response to RAIB where appropriate.
  • View RAIB reports and associated recommendations for incidents before January 2010
