Why can't I buy an advance purchase (discounted) ticket?
Advance purchase tickets can offer significant discounts on the price of standard fares. The quantity in which they are offered and the timing of their availability is a commercial matter for the train operating company concerned. Given the savings they offer, such tickets are very popular and tend to sell out quickly.
Further information on advance purchase tickets can be found on the National Rail website.
