ORR Chairman welcomes Jim O’Sullivan to the ORR Board as Non-Executive Director with responsibility for safety

1 April 2005
ORR/15/05

Chris Bolt, Chairman of the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR), warmly welcomed the announcement that Jim O’Sullivan is to join the ORR Board as Non-Executive Director with responsibility for safety.

Chris Bolt said:
“Jim O’Sullivan is an excellent choice for the Office of Rail Regulation. He brings extensive operational and safety policy experience that will complement the expertise of current Board members. With the proposed merger of ORR and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Rail, this appointment will provide the assurance needed by rail users, rail staff and the public that safety will be kept at the heart of everyone’s work.”

Notes for editors

  1. The Railways Bill, now completing its progress through Parliament, gives the ORR responsibility for safety regulation. This will result in the transfer of Health and Safety Executive Rail (HSE Rail), which includes Her Majesty’s Railway Inspectorate (HMRI), to ORR when the Bill becomes law.
  2. Under the Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003 appointments to the ORR Board are made by the Secretary of State for Transport.
