Rail Regulator to establish costs for major programme of station enhancements

23 July 2002
ORR/11/02

The Rail Regulator, Tom Winsor, today launched a consultation on a cost review for a major programme of enhancements to stations being promoted by the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA).

This review, which was proposed in the Regulator's periodic review final conclusions, published in October 2000, would establish the cost of delivering new facilities in a programme that encompasses 980 stations across the network. The planned enhancements include passenger personal security and information systems, waiting facilities and toilets.

The SRA specified the scope of the programme following extensive consultation and discussion with Railtrack (in railway administration). Work is expected to begin by January 2003.

The consultation document is available here. The consultation letter is also attached. Interested parties should respond with their views by 30 August 2002.
